Fall Season.
9/14/2016 (Permalink)
The fall season is fast approaching and the weather is beginning to reflect it! We can finally breath a sigh of relief as the hot and humid temperatures gradually come to an end. The forecast for the week ahead will remain in the high-to-low 70's. This weekend will however come with some precipitation. Sunday we are expected to have thunderstorms, so prepare for a gloomy day inside. Though the rain may put a dent in your weekend plans, it will be much appreciated by those local apple farms because as we all know, apple season is almost here! We cannot wait for the apple cider, picking, pies, and so on! Enjoy your week, from the SERVPRO team.
Back to School.
9/13/2016 (Permalink)
School is officially back in session! The summer may have come to an end, but the nice weather is not over just yet. This week will remain in the 70 to 80 degrees range. There will be some cloud coverage throughout the week, but there will be no rain on the forecast. Be sure to take advantage of the warm temperatures while they last! It's the perfect weather to be outside supporting your local school's fall sports. For those night games/events you should dress a little warmer as the evenings will see quite a drop in temperatures- as low as 55 degrees! We wish all of you the best of luck this school year, both in sports and academically.

Weather August 17th!
8/16/2016 (Permalink)
After a week of many showers and summer thunderstorms, it looks like the sun is going to be peaking out for the weekend! Since Summer is already beginning to start to wind down, we suggest getting outside as much as you can this weekend to soak up the sun while you still can! We’re looking at mostly sunny with highs in the low 80’s! And remember, if you’re looking for something to do there’s always the Golf Fore Good miniature golf event Thursday through Sunday at the Oakdale Mall!
Weekend Weather August 12th-13th
8/10/2016 (Permalink)
This weekend looks like it’s going to be a bit on the stormy side! Make sure you stay safe if any bad thunderstorms make it to town. Weekend Weather
8/4/2016 (Permalink)
Weekend Weather
This weekend is looking a little on the cloudy side with a few showers headed our way. After a very dry past few weeks, it looks like we’re getting quite caught up with the rain. Saturday should start out with a few showers and then clear up as the day progresses. The cloudy skies seem to be in the forecast all weekend, continuing into early next week. We are looking forward to getting our nice summer flowers and plants a fresh drink this weekend but it may not be the best weekend for those outdoor activities.
Weather this week:
7/26/2016 (Permalink)
We’re looking at another hot one this week! But it is July so it’s pretty appropriate. This week looks clear and sunny with a high of 91 on Wednesday! So even if you are working, try and get to the pool after work and soak up some rays. Don’t forget the sunscreen! This weekend is looking a little questionable however. Friday through Sunday we’re looking at 60% precipitation all weekend, but Binghamton and the Southern Tier is in desperate need of rain, just check out that river. So stay cool this week and maybe plan a few indoor activities this weekend.

Memorial Day 2016
6/1/2016 (Permalink)
This Federal holiday honoring men and women who died while serving the U.S. military takes place the last Monday of May and has created many springtime traditions and tributes around various towns in America. By the late 1960s, Americans all over bugun this tradition in order to honor the fallen soldiers by decorating their graves with flowers and reciting prayers.
Originally, Memorial Day was known as Decoration Day and was chosen to be held on the 30th of May because it wasn’t the anniversary of any particular battle. It was to honor only the fallen soldiers of the Civil War but over time, it evolved to commemorate American military personnel who died in all wars. By 1968, Congress passed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, which established Memorial Day as the last Monday of May and created a three-day weekend for federal employees.
Today, many cities and towns across America hold Memorial Day parades, incorporating military personnel and members of the veterans’ organization. Many people are often found visiting cemeteries and memorials to honor the countless fallen soldiers. Others throw parties and barbecues to enjoy the beginning of summer.

Weather This Week
5/19/2016 (Permalink)
Hey Southern Tier, are you ready for some sunshine? We sure are!
Upstate New York has experienced a cool, damp May so far. With temperatures averaging in the 50’s for the past couple of weeks, we look forward to the warmer days ahead!
We’ve been feeling the effects of the low pressure waves of cold air coming in from the North. According to weather.com, a southward shift in the polar vortex is to blame for the chilly temperatures and even snow this past weekend! Binghamton and the surrounding area should expect to experience highs in the low to mid 70’s for the remainder of the month of May – only a few more days of projected rainfall, as well!
This warmer, dryer weather should make way for those “May Flowers” we’ve been promised, and hopefully lead us into a beautiful, snow-free June!
Weather This Week
5/13/2016 (Permalink)
It’s finally happening! Upstate NY is finally seeing clear skies, 70’s and sunny - the perfect combination for a start to spring! This week we’ve seen more sun than we know what to do with and we couldn’t be happier. If this is what the summer is going to look like - bring it on! While we’ve been extremely fortunate this week - and it may feel like summer across sections of the interior Northeast and New England Thursday with highs in the 80s, the warmth will be short-lived as high temperatures turn nearly 30 degrees colder this weekend. According to weather.com “a cold front will slide through the Midwest Thursday and Friday with showers and thunderstorms. Behind it, the jet stream, or river of fast-moving air separating cold air from warm air, will dig southward Friday and Saturday.” Of course just in time for us to leave work and get outside. However Sunday we’ll see clouds and through next week more sun. So just hold on! We will see the return of the sun!
Weather This Week
4/27/2016 (Permalink)
While the weather in Upstate NY is mild this week - sunny with a few showers - central America is struggling to get through some severe weather changes. “A very active weather pattern is taking shape this week that will impact many areas of the country from coast-to-coast. Included is a threat of severe storms and possible tornadoes, flooding rainfall and possible blizzard conditions.” (weather.com) Heavy rain, flooding, snow and the possibility of strong winds are all possible.
We know the SERVPRO teams in the affected areas will be busy repairing and restoring homes and businesses affected by the water damage. We’re always ready for whatever weather comes our way!

SERVPRO: Earth Day 2016
4/25/2016 (Permalink)
April 22nd 2016 represents 46 years of dedication to a movement that seeks to improve our planet through challenging ideas, igniting passion, and motivating people to action. “In 1970, the year of our first Earth Day, the movement gave voice to an emerging consciousness, channeling human energy toward environmental issues. Forty-six years later, we continue to lead with groundbreaking ideas and by the power of our example.” (Earth Day Network)
The Earth Day Initiative grew out of the 70’s peace movement to help force environmental protection onto the national political agenda. “Earth Day 1970 achieved a rare political alignment, enlisting support from Republicans and Democrats, rich and poor, city slickers and farmers, tycoons and labor leaders. By the end of that year, the first Earth Day had led to the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts.” To learn more about the history of Earth Day check out the link below.

If you or your company are seeking to support the Earth Day Network in your local community, they have generously included all the resources needed to host a community wide event.

Earth day represents the idea that we all play an impact in shaping the world around us. If you don’t have the resources or time to organize a community wide event, you can help participate in the Earth Day Networks Tree’s for Earth Campaign. For every dollar donated the foundation pledges to plant trees to combat land degradation and climate change, to provide food, energy, and income. Spring is here whether you like it or not!
4/25/2016 (Permalink)

The birds are chirping and more importantly the leaves are growing! Most locals to the Southern Tier/Upstate region of New York anticipate the fall and spring blooms every year, and they never disappoint. All SERVPRO employees are first and foremost given a background check, and drug tested, since they will be entering the homes and personal spaces of our valued customers. Our employees are typically entering your homes/offices at a very sensitive time and we need to be 100% positive they are responsible and respectable individuals.
Our employees travel quite a bit to obtain all of their many certifications. All employees from the office staff to Production Technicians are trained to perform all services! Our SERVPRO team members drive through Broome, Tompkins and Tioga counties and (because we have all of our certifications) sometimes farther for large loss recovery. As a result we make sure they are driving one of our green SERVPRO vehicles! So see if you spot them next time you’re driving around town and tag us on Facebook! Our team is also geared up daily in a SERVPRO specific uniform to ensure we keep up our professional appearances for all of our customers.
