3/22/2022 (Permalink)
The first thing that comes to mind when you think of fire or water damage to your home or business is typically the loss of clothes, furniture, goods, and electronics. However, something we don’t often think about is all of the legal documents and photos that can be lost as well. Here at SERVPRO we understand the importance of restoring these irreplaceable documents, so we offer a service that aims to recover and restore photos and legal papers through an assortment of techniques that ensure your best chance at saving and recovering the important ones.
One process we use is vacuum freeze drying where we employ sublimation to freeze and dry an item to bypass the liquid stage and restore the item to its previous form. It is the most efficient and effective way to save water damaged items and it’s the only method approved by NARA (National Archives and Records Administration) and GSA (General Service Administration).
Another method we can use is digitizing. If you have many documents that have been physically affected but are still able to be digitally recorded, those documents can be filed online in a safe place eliminating the need for many records in storage that are subject to potential damage.
SERVPRO follows a process that includes, inventory, packaging, cold storage, shipping, and finally receipt of documents to ensure everything is accounted for and restored accordingly. Document restoration is a unique service offered by SERVPRO because we understand the value of physical documents and the importance of restoring photos. Call SERVPRO to get a free estimate on your damaged documents or photos and we’ll do our best to make it seem "Like it never even happened."

We really are here 24/7/365!

The week before Christmas, we got over forty inches of snow dumped on our community. A week later, and a few degrees warmer, we got a large rainfall that also melted much of the snow – which meant a lot of flooding. Between December 23-December 28 we had over 100 water related losses called into our franchise. Despite the Holidays, we had our production and office staff out assisting our community during their time of need. Estimates were being given, mediation was beginning and the waters began receding.
SERVPRO of Broome, Tompkins & Tioga Counties and SERVPRO of Elmira/Chemung & Watkins Glen/Schuyler County prioritizes fast response, professionalism and the ability to get the job done. While we offer a plethora of services, we also offer free estimates. Give us a call at 607-722-2262 to schedule an appointment with us today!

We aim to give our customers peace of mind when they experience an unfortunate disaster. Here is what some of our local customers have to say about our services.
SERVPRO came and worked with us after a leaky pipe flooded our basement... they were professional, efficient, and timely! We definitely recommend them and will use them again in the future if needed!
- Patti M
Recently had a broken radiator pipe that resulted in flooding of 2 floors. The folks at SERVPRO took care of everything! From the cleanup to negotiating with the insurance company to the repair work. They even brought flooring samples to my house so I didn't have to go to the store. Could not be happier with the outcome!
- Wendy A
We had an issue with some mold in two bathrooms of a rental property. They came quickly to assess and then to remediate the issue. Pricing was fair and upfront. Our tenants are satisfied and so are we!
- Janet S
This the 3rd time in the past 10 years that we have used SERVPRO. Each time they came to our rescue. We had a water leak in our ceiling which had travelled behind our basement wall. They were there the very next morning and reassured us that it will be taken care of quickly. They removed part of the wall and the wet insulation. The wall and the flooring was dried over the weekend. Throughout the time, they were very professional and respectful. We will highly recommend them. We would use them again if the need arises. Thank you again for being there for us.

Cleaning & Disinfecting Professionals

During this unprecedented time marked by the global pandemic of coronavirus, SERVPRO of Broome County , Tompkins & Tioga Counties and SERVPRO of Elmira/ Chemung County & SERVPRO of Watkins Glen/ Schuyler County want to remind our customers we are specialists in cleaning services. As a professional team, we strictly adhere to the highest cleaning and sanitation standards derived by industry leaders for over 25 years.
To date, there is no specific proven protocol to eradicate the virus from frequently touched surfaces, such as doorknobs, kitchen counters & bathrooms. However, the CDC is encouraging the use of hospital-grade, EPA registered disinfectants that are typically used to remove certain pathogens. SERVPRO offers different “levels” of disinfecting that can accomplish the specific needs of a commercial client.
Level 1 disinfection entails fogging/electrostatic spraying of surfaces only, without any manual cleaning services.
The level 2 disinfecting protocol incorporates the electrostatic spraying of surfaces with additional high touch point and surface cleaning. High tough surfaces can include counters, tables, doorknobs, bathroom fixtures, phones, computer equipment, desks, furniture etc. Cleanup of high touch surfaces is required for a situation involving a person who is suspected to have COVID-19 or a Person Under Investigation.
Enhanced cleanup is required for an area in which a person who has been confirmed positive for COVID-19 has inhabited. This may in included Level 1 and 2 cleaning and disinfecting, along with cleaning of all nonporous and porous surfaces. This enhanced cleaning includes up to 8 feet of wall cleaning, but excludes ceilings.
Reach out to SERVPRO of Broome County, Tompkins & Tioga Counties, Elmira/ Chemung County & Watkins Glen/ Schuyler County today to schedule your free COVID-19 disinfecting estimate.

IICRC Trained and Certified Employees

IICRC Certified
Property restoration includes a wide area of services all with the primary purpose of cleaning of damage and messes caused by flooding and excess moisture, fire smoke and soot, mold, biohazard, and severe weather such as tornadoes, hurricanes, hail and more. Property Restorers want to protect fragile properties against further damages.
Although property restoration professionals may have training and expertise in specialized areas, most are required to have met some certifications. The IICRC, or Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration, is a certification organization that sets standards for the related industries. The IICRC is recognized by the insurance industry and restoration professionals as the global standard for restoration.
What Is the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning, and Restoration?
The IICRC is a third-party certification agency that also oversees the training and education of restoration and cleanup technicians. Some of the classes that technicians study includes fire and water restoration, carpet cleaning, upholstery cleaning, and structural drying. Technicians may also earn certificates in mold remediation, restorative drying, and tarping services. If performing work with biohazards, special training courses must be completed.
What Is Mitigation?
Mitigation is an important element of cleaning and restoration services. The goal of mitigation is to reduce losses by limiting the effect of disasters. When a property has been damaged by flooding or fires, it may seem that the extent of damages is complete. However, secondary damages are often a possibility. For example, mold growth can take place after floodwaters have been cleaned up. Once the flames of a property fire are gone, the structure may suffer secondary damages because moisture has been absorbed from the water used to fight the fire. A mitigation certificate shows that technicians have demonstrated their ability to prevent further losses.
The Importance of Industry Standard Makers
The IICRC plays a vital role in preparing property restoration and cleanup professionals to perform their jobs with top quality results. It also keeps industry standards high, protecting clients from all walks of life. If you require restoration services in Broome County, Tompkins County, Tioga County, Chemung County or Schuyler County choose a company that lives up to these standards and requires trained employees.

SERVPRO & The New Visions Program for Students
12/24/2019 (Permalink)
We put our community first. This year, we started working with the New Visions program. New Visions is a program provided through BOCES for accelerated high school seniors. The seniors chosen for this program are seeking hands-on experience in the professional world regarding their future field of interest. New Visions achieves this by setting up internships at different professions in the Broome, Tioga county areas. SERVPRO was eager to get involved in the internships.
We contacted the educator of the New Visions Business Academy, to see how we could help. Our contact linked us to a senior from Vestal Senior High School, Laura. Laura comes to our Binghamton location from 8:30 to 10:00am on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to learn about what we do here at SERVPRO.
She has been working closely with our marketing team these past few weeks. She has gotten the chance to see the exclusive details of their daily workload. She has sat in on marketing meetings, toured our facilities and worked on marketing projects. We hope to teach her the importance of customer service, communication, and the many other inside secrets SERVPRO of Broome, Tompkins & Tioga Counties has to offer.
We love supporting the New Visions program because we believe these students are the future of our workforce. We hope to give them a unique experience at SERVPRO, as to illuminate them to the possibilities they can achieve. We look forward to the future placements with the New Visions Business students in the 2020 year.

Helping families this Thanksgiving

Loading up the turkeys
SERVPRO of Broome, Tompkins & Tioga Counties was able to help the Broome County Catholic Charities Thanks 4 Giving 2019 Turkey Drive by donating 110 Turkeys to reach their goal of feeding 3,500 families this Thanksgiving.
Each year our company donates to several organizations in the area, with a particular interest in bettering the lives of families and children in our area.
“To do more for the world, than the world has done for you – that is success.”- Henry Ford.
As a special "Thank You" to all of our hard working employees and their families this holiday, extra turkey's were purchased for each employee to take home. We wouldn't be where we are today without the dedication of our staff.
Wishing all the families of the Greater Binghamton and surrounding areas a safe and Happy Thanksgiving!

Document Restoration Chamber

When it comes to fire, water, or mold damage, not only is the structure/property itself affected but potentially valuable contents as well. Some of our most valuable processions can be photos, documents, or legal files. SERVPRO of Broome County East can help in this case as your all in one vendor- from structure cleaning to content and document restoration. Whether it’s your home or office, we can help.
SERVPRO offers the following forms of document restoration:
- Vacuum Freeze Drying
- Process in which an item containing moisture is frozen and dried using various vacuums and pressures to achieve sublimation
- Digitizing
- With the new age of technology digitizing records and documents has become a standard practice in most industries. This eliminates the need to have massive file storage rooms and allows us to access records at the click of a button. If your file room has damage by water, or smoke, and need to be cleaned, dried, or decontaminated, digitizing might be a good choice to eliminate the needs to have 100’s or even 1000’s of documents and records in storage.
- Gamma Irradiation
- High-energy photons are emitted from an isotope source (Cobalt 60) production ionization (electron disruptions throughout a product. In living cells, these disruptions result in damage to the DNA and other cellular structures. These photon-induced changes at the molecular level cause the death of the organism or render the organism incapable of reproduction. The gamma process does not create residuals or impart radioactivity in processed products.
- Gamma Irradiation is a process that is used for cleaning/disinfecting and decontaminating documents or other consumer goods.
- In a Cat 3 situation (Sewage or Flood water) documents are not only deteriorating but are also infected with all types of bacteria. In most storm situations you are dealing with CAT 3 water, therefore most of the affected documents that you will encounter will be contaminated. If this is the case tan de-contamination is always a must.
- Certified Destruction
- Inventory of documents & certified disposal per HIPAA Regulations
